Chicken Soup For The College Soul
A Not So Random Act of Kindness is the chapter about my son JJ and his misfortune at a formal dinner. It reveals the incredible kindness of a freshman at Bethany College in West Virginia and teaches us all a huge lesson on selfless giving and caretaking of others. I remain humbled by this student years after she came to my son's rescue.
Spirit Journey is a short glimpse into the Gospel of Matthew and the Parables of Jesus. This parable, 'The Salt of The Earth' gives us great insight into Jesus' understanding of the role of moderation in all things spiritual. He encourages us to be flavorful, but not overpowering. Focused on our beliefs and ability to inspire, but not overbearing. The text is Matthew 5:13 and I write a short commentary and offer a benedictory prayer.
The Tao of Christ
I wrote this book out of my astonishment at the similarity of the teaching of Lao Tzu and Jesus of Nazareth. The fact that they lived 25 centuries apart makes their consistency and comparability more amazing. The teachings in this chapter reveal the power of a small seed of self knowledge and hope to shape and reshape a life. This is a beautiful book and contains great insights from two of the world's greatest teachers.
The Truth About College
This Prayer for Parents of students everywhere is very personal to me. I can hardly read it without becoming overwhelmed with my love for my own children. It is not meant to preach, but to teach parents that their children's growth and development is part of the plan. It will be especially relevant to anyone who has had a child go away to college.
Life After College
The words of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. inspire us to work toward justice,, peace, and righteousness. Listeners will be encouraged to live life with intent, purpose, and passion. Life as a progression of experiences and days...25,000 days...to be exact is the topic and the myth that life goes on forever is exploded and put to rest. We must all live each day as the precious gift it is. Students are encouraged not to take their life and its possibilities for granted.
The Education of Character
This was my first book, written in 1990, and still remains one of my very favorite and timely in its teachings. The chapter I decide to record is on "Pain" and is a response to those who teach or preach a message that everything is great in life and all you have to do is to 'be happy'. Pain, and its potential to teach us important life lessons, is discussed with honesty and frankness. The words of Eleanor Roosevelt and Leo Buscaglia add great perspective to the discussion of growing through our pain toward healing and love.
Let Your Leadership Speak!
This book was written by twelve innovative thinkers who I believe present exciting and provocative ideas about leadership. My chapter focuses on 'Ethical Leadership' and teaches a brilliant four step ethical decision model that was created by my friend Dr. J. Wesley Robb at the University of Southern California.
We define ethics, character, and values in this chapter and talk about our collective responsibility to make the world a better place. The importance of creating genuine and authentic human community is encouraged as the opportunity to create and empower the common good.
Wit & Wisdom, Part IV
We focus on personal success, leadership, service, and family, faith, and farm (profession) in this section. Love, death, and the need to build bridges between yourself and others are discussed. The culture of excuse and the cult of victimology are exploded as personally limiting attitudes, and role of forgiveness and choosing a wise path are taught at keys to quality interpersonal relationships.
Wit & Wisdom, Part III
In Part III, I am encouraging individuals to be ethical decision makers and practice a wellness life style. Encouragement is given for a spiritual lifestyle and the 'Ten Essential Characteristics of Leadership' are revealed. Listeners are encouraged to be leaders, contributors, warriors, and to remember their 'ABC's'.
Loneliness is revealed as the result of too much time spent on 'high tech' and not enough time spent on 'high touch'. Balance is the key and the Golden Rule provides the starting point for good relationships.
Wit & Wisdom, Part II
Knowledge is power, power brings choice, and a meaningful life is a life filled with choices. Learning from failure is the key to success, and listeners are encouraged to be risk takers. The key to happiness is revealed and response able relationships are encouraged. Taking one hour a day, the 'Hour of Power' will empower success in relationships, work, and life. 30 minutes a day of exercise and 30 minutes a day of prayer, meditation, or contemplation will empower and inspire the individual to greatness.
Welcome to 'The Wit & Wisdom' of Dr. Will Keim! I am pleased to present to you my new book in an audio format as well as a chapter from many of my other books for your listening enjoyment. You may purchase a complete signed CD of the work if you wish after listening to the sections here.
Wit & Wisdon, Part I
This is the first part of my new book "Wit & Wisdom". Beginning with 'Life is not a dress rehearsal', the listener will hear my thoughts on the meaning of life, the role of passion and dreaming big dreams, the place of silence in one's life, and the secret to a meaningful and productive life. You will be encouraged to be the director, not the victim, or your life, and begin to differentiate between your needs and your wants.
